Lax̱g̱alts’ap at Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) 2026 Convention ’Common Good’

Chief Councillor Sheldon Martin, Councillor Peter Leeson and CAO Bobby Clark were in Vancouver this week participating in the UBCM 2026 Convention, themed ’Common Good’.

As a modern treaty nation member, Nisg̱a’a Lisims and Nisg̱a’a Village Governments participate and network with all of BC’s municipalities and the provincial cabinet ministers.

This week Chief Martin led meetings with Premier David Eby, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Mike Farnworth, and Solicitor General and Minister of Public Safety Nina Krieger to advance issues and concerns from citizens of Lax̱g̱alts’ap, including,

  • the deteriorating state of Nisg̱a’a Highway 113 from Gitwinksihlkw to Ging̱olx,
  • the overgrowth of vegetation along Nisg̱a’a Highway 113 and along the BC Hydro Right of Way
  • the frequency of power outages as a result of the neglected BC Hydro right of way
  • consultation and communication prior to the release of criminal offenders in to community

Chief Martin also expressed gratitude to Premier Eby and BC Housing for keeping Lax̱g̱alts’ap’s density relief project alive.  BC Housing announced the Lax̱g̱alts’ap project on the opening day of the convention, as you’ll see at the following link: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1DMiPA9ByR/
