Youth Mentorship Program Runs from June – September 2026
Lax̱g̱alts’ap youth have been actively engaged in a Youth Mentorship Program that started with an Open House with Youth Mentorship Facilitator Leslie Robinson on May 27.
At the Open House, Leslie heard the youth ideas on what they would like to learn and do. From there, the program and activities have been tailored so the youth are learning about language, culture, life skills, with recreational activities in the mix.
Since then, 12-15 Lax̱g̱alts’ap adolescent youth have been consistently participating in recreational, cultural and land-based learning activities on Mondays, Wednesdays and Friday/Saturdays that have thus far included a tour of the Nisg̱a’a Museum, the auto tour of the Nisg̱a’a Memorial Lava Bed Park, a day trip to Kitimat and Terrace for swimming, dinner and a movie and just this week they prepared a donation of sandwiches to contribute to a cultural event in the community.
The youth mentorship program will continue to September and has been made possible through grant funding from the Province of British Columbia.
A monthly calendar of planned activities will be made available on LVG’s website and social media. Leslie is actively engaged with parents for consent on planned trips and use of photos.
Elders will also be engaged with language and culture activities with the youth in the days and months ahead.
