Lax̱g̱alts’ap Village Government is excited to announce the launch of a Summer 2026 Youth Mentorship Program for youth ages 10 – 16!!
This 3-month tailored, created-with-youth-for-youth program will meet each participant where they are at and include activities in land-based learning, Nisg̱a’a language and culture, sports, recreation and life skills development.
The Laxgalts’ap Youth Mentorship Program is designed to support young people through mentorship, cultural connection, and life skills development. The program creates a safe and supportive environment where youth can build confidence, strengthen their identity, and develop practical skills that prepare them for adulthood and leadership in their communities.
The program aims to:
• Empower youth with practical life skills
• Build leadership and confidence
• Strengthen cultural identity and connection to community
• Provide gender-specific spaces that encourage healthy growth and mentorship
• Foster relationships between youth, mentors, elders, and community leaders
Leslie Robinson – Program Facilitator:
Leslie Robinson is Ksim Nisg̱a’a, Lax̱gibuu from Wilps Ksdiyaawaḵ with 18+ years experience working with children and youth in both recreational and mentorship settings:
• Certified Soccer Coach through the Coaching Association of Canada
• Group facilitation experience and community engagement
• Experience working with children and youth ages 8 – 18
• Strong understanding of mentorship, leadership development, and youth engagement
• Commitment to culturally grounded and community-centered programming
Leslie is excellent at working collaboratively through networking to strengthen youth-led program delivery and takes the time to build positive, lasting relationships with youth.
This summer program is made possible through partnership funding with the Province of British Columbia.
