Parent Gathering – Preparing for a Strong School Year

August 6 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

As part of our commitment to improving student success, the Lax̱g̱alts’ap Village Government and the Education Department will be hosting a Parent Gathering in August, prior to the start of the new school year.

Date: August 6, 2026

Location: St. Andrew’s Church Hall

Time: 6 pm

Dinner will be provided

The purpose of this gathering is to bring families together for a positive and proactive discussion about the future of education in our community. Topics will include:

  • student attendance; i.e., the impacts of School allowances due to lack of attendance
  • chronic absenteeism,
  • strategies to better support student success, and
  • ways to strengthen the partnership between families, schools, and the Education Department.

The gathering will also provide an opportunity to discuss different educational models and learning options that may better meet the needs of our students. While many students continue to be successful within the current school system, the Education Department believes it is important to explore additional approaches that could improve engagement, attendance, and educational outcomes. This conversation is not about replacing any other school or programs but about identifying opportunities that give every student the best chance to succeed.

Parents and caregivers are strongly recommended to give this a high priority gathering, as their ideas, experiences, and perspectives will play an important role in shaping future educational priorities within our community.

By working together before the school year begins, we can strengthen our shared commitment to education/enhancing your child(ren )’s academics and continue building a community culture where education is everyone’s business.

Respectfully,

LAX̱G̱ALTS’AP VILLAGE GOVERNMENT

Mr. Sheldon Martin

Chief Councillor
